The irony, of making this first post about the creation of the website in general. How long did this process take? About three-ish days to get into a “workable” state. What’s a workable state? I guess that all the links work and as far as I can tell, no typos! Woo hoo.
The Intro:
So, I took the plunge and started my own Etsy shop about 11 or 12 days ago. Side hustles are all the rage these days, and I figured, why not give it a shot? But just opening a shop on Etsy wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to go the extra mile and set myself up for success. And that’s when the idea of creating a website came into play.
The Expectation vs. Reality of Website Creation:
Let me tell you, building a website was quite the adventure. At first, I thought it would be a piece of cake. I mean, you can find stories online that promise to build your website in just one hour. So naturally, I thought it would be a quick process. Well it took me three days to get everything sorted. Is that a lot? is that a little? I have no idea. And mind you, I was working on it in between my regular 9-5. I had no idea it would take that long, but hey, now I know better!
Learning Lessons and Adjusting Expectations:
I have to give a big shout-out to Tyler Moore and his amazing YouTube videos. If I had followed his advice right from the beginning, I probably would’ve saved myself some time. Lesson learned: research and preparation are key, and also just doing what I am told helps too. Building a website isn’t as easy as it sounds, but now I have a more realistic expectation of the time and effort it takes.
The Motivation Behind the Website:
Now, you might be wondering, why did I even bother with a website alongside my Etsy shop? Well, I’ll tell you why. I told myself, “If I am going to do this, I may as well set it up for success.” I’m a bit particular, you see. Just relying on Etsy alone didn’t cut it for me. I needed an online presence, no, the shop needed it, it needs to stand out. Plus, I thought it would be cool to document my journey and share it with others. Who knows, maybe some people will find it interesting too. And personally, I’m curious to look back in six or twelve months and see how it all started. If the shop is still around that is..
Setting YOU Up for Success:
That’s the theme I want to explore on this website—setting yourself up for success. See I learned this lesson a while back, and that’s the reason I am typing this message now. We’ll explore that more in the future. I’ve also already learned so much in these past 12 days about design, graphic design in particular, as well as marketing and social media. There’s already a wealth of topics to talk about, and I’m genuinely excited about it. So, buckle up and get ready for some interesting stories and valuable insights. And hey, if you’re on a similar journey, maybe you’ll find some inspiration here too, or think to yourself..”OK, so don’t do it that way…”
So What’s Next?:
Starting my own Etsy shop was just the beginning. I mean, why only target Etsy? And what is it I’m actually selling there? THAT is a whole thing..which will also be discussed in a later post. Alright, so I am done typing..how do I submit this…thing..uhh.. This is going to be interesting.
